It’s World Stationery Day!

Creative & Collective

What kind of #stationeryaddict would I be if I didn’t celebrate #worldstationeryday?

If I had my own brick and mortar store I would celebrate the day surrounded by beautiful stationery…

OH wait!!

I do that already!!

Revenge of Eve

Thoughts of the Future

The infamous Stationery Show in London gives me #goals. I hope to (one day) walk around and feel the different textures of paper, see the new product lines of my favorite stationery designers, and most of all to stock up on more notebooks!! (Of course, after I achieve what I have set out over the next five years).

My love for stationery overflows into desk accessories and I’ve never worked at a desk in my life😂. But if I did…you can bet it would be the prettiest, cleanest white and gold desk you’ve ever seen. I vision it now:

A gold stapler

A 24karat gold block as my paperweight.

All white pens, pencils, and notebook covers. I would throw in a few gold pens.

Gold paper clips. Jumbo to a mini in size.

My charging port area would be set up with a huge comfy gold, leather, oversized chair adorned with a white sequence pillow and a fluffy white, long pillow.

The chargers and cords would be gold and my laptop alternating gold and white stripes.

My office chair would be a metallic gold while my desk, a crisp white.

Pictures hanging throughout the space that is simple and singular in design.

Everywhere gold and white intricate frames, some small and some big. No pics occupy the frames. Instead, beautiful papers that deserve to be framed.

I would have an adjacent desk that is black with gold drawer pulls and white front faced drawers. There would be something white and abstract that displays an art form on my desk.

…….

No, I’ve never thought about what my office would look like 😂😂😂

Do You have a desk job? Is your desk a mess or nice and organized? If you have an office, share with me how it is decorated. I would love to hear about it!!

I started a post about yesterdays # put I didn’t finish it because… who the hell knows why but I didn’t. This post is being published a bit later than my normal but what the hell? It’s all good in tha hood.

#penandpencils

I will share with you my favorite brand of pen and that is Sigma Micron micro pigmented artists pens. These pricey archival ink pens are worth every cent. The words you string together will be forever when using them. Each time I write something I want to last, in terms of actual documenting, I use these to ensure the life of my words live on.

Do you have a favorite brand of pen or do you use a particular ink tip?

I hope today brought smiles and laughter in your lives and for tomorrow,

I’ll deal with that when it gets here.

#PaperChaseLovesList

Today’s hashtag is a mouthful! From the website National Stationery Week dot com, today’s challenge is sponsored by Paper Chase –

Paperchase is the UK’s number 1 shopping spot for exciting and innovative design-led stationery. For over 50 years we’ve inspired with stylish stationery, unique greeting cards, distinctive gifts as well as quality art and craft materials.”

Challenge

From a top ten of the UK’s favourite crisps to your simple task list on a Monday morning, Paperchase loves writing lists – especially with the store’s selection of creative, colourful, crafty and premium notebooks.

They say that your notebook is an extension of yourself and, with so many notebooks available, you can display your personality through the pad in which you take your every day notes.

Partnered with a perfect pen, your lists can be beautiful, bulletted or bold.

Paperchase will be creating lists of their favourite lists – including stationery – during National Stationery Week and will be encouraging stationery addicts to do exactly the same!

My Five Favorite Notebooks

Choosing five of your favorite notebooks may seem a simple tasks to you but when you are a #stationeryaddict like me, it is next to impossible to do.

I decided to choose ones based on a variety of reasons. One was chosen for its aesthetics and surprisingly great paper, another is my most expensive notebook to date. But enough of the spoiler!! Let’s have show and tell!

The first notebook has been in my collection for about two years now and of all of my notebooks, 20+, this one is my favorite all around. The subtle grey lines that rule the paper are perfect for a clean look. The durable cover is what sold me on this spiral beauty. Speaking of spiral, the coil is gold and I love me some gold!!!

Character and trend art are not really my thing but I couldn’t resist this magical unicorn. The charm and gold and the quality sold me instantly. The icing on top of this deal was the price tag. I paid under $10 for it! Gotta love T.J. Maxx. I’ve not seen another but if I do, I will scoop it up! The company who made my #1 notebook is Mara-Mi and the line is Zoomerang. I’ve not found any others in this line but would enjoy seeing what other mystical creatures make up the zoo.

Top: #1 fave Bottom: geometric design

The next one I chose I did so for the geometric design. Another notebook made with a durable cover and there is something different about the type of paper used. I can’t quite put my finger on it but I want to say it is smooth to the touch. The only thing that I do not care about is the weight of the paper. It is on the thin side which allows for the ink to be seen on the back of the page. I refuse to use the backside of paper if there is bleed through.

Pictured above are two notepads and I decided two of those would equal a notebook and it adds variety. The teal spiral pad with a C on it was purchased around Christmas time from Stage for $10. It was on sale for 50% off (originally $20) and I would buy it a million times over. I wish every notebook I owned had the kind of paper this notepad does. It has a grit to it. Like grain feel and it is thick without allowing ink to bleed through.

The other small notepad pictured is designed to look like that of a waitress pad. It is a to-do list with thick sheets of tear off paper.

Left: Clairefontaine Right: Write Notebook

The flimsy looking notebook on the left is my Clairefontaine Seyes-ruled notebook ordered from France, literally. When i decided to step up my stationery game, this is the first notebook I purchased.

I am not a fan of the cover so much. It doesn’t seem as durable as I prefer but I have never put it to the test. The paper is amazing!! Seyes-ruled pages is this company’s legacy. The faint shade of purple grid-like lines has been used in schools across France for many years. I have previously written a review of these two notebooks which I published on NYAC.

The notebook on the right is manufactured in the United States by a school bookbinding company named Write. This notebook has a sturdy kraft cover that comes from the series of New York Burroughs.

The red band that acts as its closure is an actual rubberband that is completely removable. I like the originality behind that and find it to be a great way of branding. This notebook is the most and only masculine notebook that I own. I prefer the more frilly and full out girl designs.

Other notebook talk

There is a thing about the ruling of paper that I am picky particular about and that is the ruling. Dot and grid paper seem to be all the rage today and I must admit, college ruling is where it’s at. I have discovered I like the lighter shades of grey or blue for the color of the lines but sometimes that isn’t an option. The ideal ruling color would be the light purple Clairefontaine offers but we haven’t got there yet in the stationery world. Plus this may not be the preferred color of many but it is mine and that’s who we are talking about today!! Lol

Before we go, I want to touch on the thickness and texture of the paper I choose. I use marker pens and if they bled through I am left with half of the pages. I refuse to write on the back of a page where you can see other writing. I equate thin to cheap and that isn’t the case when considering Japanese paper products but that is a whole ‘nother level of stationery. The texture I like is a smooth surface unless I am using a pencil and the I choose a rougher texture of paper.

That about sums it up for my favorite notebook talk. I hope to participate in this week of stationery hashtags but sometimes, a lot of times, life is busy. I didn’t plan as well as I should have to say that I will but I can say that I will try!

How about you? Do you have any particulars about notebooks or paper that you must have or things that you refuse to use? Do you love stationery like I do? Am I crazy? Don’t answer that one!! Have a great day everyone!!

Today

I’m on one

In a mood

High strung

Pumped

Sensory overload

Discombobulated

Focus

I say

out loud

throughout the day

My body temperature is higher than normal

Outside the sun shines and a fragrant breeze blows

Just yesterday I was on the

As i learn

to breathe,

I set aside my pride

Shutting down the chatter

Because…

Only this moment

Mental Health & Recovery, Personal Growth & Goals

The Shift

I must let it be known to anyone who is ready for an awakening within themselves or the world, it’s happening in me and it is painful! If you are on a spiritual journey of any kind you have most likely heard of Eckard Tolle and if you haven’t heard of him, you have got to look him up!!

(Click his name above to be directed and discover the purpose of his foundation)

2019

I claimed 2019 to be the year of self-discovery and I had NO idea what I was in for! None, zilch, notta. The pessimist in me prepares for the worse but the journey I am being led down has me experiencing a hurt for the world in our current state of existence. The suffering and pain I am feeling may prove too much to bear.

My assumption was that I would experience sadness from revisiting painful moments that I never allowed myself to fully feel yet I am feeling so much more. Everything I was taught and all I thought about life is being challenged by the spiritual teachings of Eckard Tolle. And I don’t mean challenged as in an argument, I mean for the greater good. The weight of emotions I am feeling I attribute to the pain and suffering being experienced as a collective whole.

At this point, I don’t care if I sound crazy, I have to share so others have the opportunity to tune in. For those who question any belief outside of religion and even those who do not, anyone soul searching, agnostics, atheists, average folks…everyone!! This information is for US and it is in your best interest to take advantage of being taught about the shift happening. It is hard to conceptualize the extent to which things are discussed but I feel his words with every fiber of my being. You will too. Just listen. Don’t think, don’t resist, don’t judge, but don’t say I don’t warn you about the difficult realizations you will have.

This isn’t a scam to get you to follow a person and his beliefs, this is the way back to our true selves. He goes in depth about ego, our idea of God, our brains, our consciousness, and more. You don’t have to be intelligent or rich or white or any of that bullshit for this information to impact you.

Revenge of Eve

Stop making that face! Have faith!

This isn’t some new modern shit that will fade away rather a shift that must happen in order for us as a species to continue moving forward and it’s happening whether we like it or not.

People use the term millennial to disguise the first generation the shift has impacted in a blanketed fashion. Older generations are doubtful because it puts everything they were taught and taught in the spotlight as wrong (language..more on that) but this isn’t about being right or wrong, this is about healing as a whole. Believe me, I’m the last one to advocate for our species because in my opinion, we are fucked and we did it to ourselves. This approach is much kinder.

There are no fees, no membership, and no, it isn’t witchcraft or a cult nor is it a belief system that threatens you to flames, condemning you to hell on the basis of decision. This is a legit explanation, to the extent, our minds can conceptualize, as far as our existence in the human form is concerned.

Naturally, some will want to challenge this notion but the catch is your words may spew challenges but if you live by this teaching, there is no denying the truth behind it. Not one person can do as suggested and prove error.

That’s a bold statement especially for someone like myself. I don’t just believe what I am told. I am doer, a leader, and a woman who has experienced pain and grief to the extent of losing my sanity.

Adaptation

We developed words to guide us in communicating and somewhere along these lines we began to use these words to define who we are, what we are supposed to do according to these roles, and that’s where we went wrong. The language of love is all we need and because of a language we developed, we couldn’t be any further from our original being. We use words and labels to define our surrounding and in terms of what’s right and what is wrong, this is right. How do I know? I don’t know. It’s a feeling. I’ve never felt so right in my life. Another huge statement!

I am using terms we are familiar with that describe what it is that is happening within me. I am not saying you are wrong in your beliefs. I am speaking from my perspective but I challenge you to make it yours. Process it how you will but take the action it takes to implement the suggestions.

What really convinces me of this theory is the fact there is no insult to other opinions in order to put emphasis on this way of operating. There are no side effects other than tears and a bit of confusion but compared to the ones Big Pharma would have us all on, that’s nothing!! And these are second to the feelings I have about this….and you all know, I NEVER TRUST MYSELF. My intuition has spiked off the charts as though my inner child is pushing me to be set free. If I’ve never trusted myself before, I do now.

Normally I would be hesitant to share anything that goes against the grain and this doesn’t even do that!!! All you are required to do is be present, sit with your emotions as they occur, and move on with the next minute. Don’t get me wrong, those simple ideas are hard to do when our world screams instant, now, immediate, fix, cure, solve and even better…the promise of happiness. Never one time does he use words to make promises or glorify the end result. Why? Because it speaks for itself.

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it twice I require used to require words for others to understand me and I revoke each and every time I thought or said so. I do not need to be defined. I am. It is our very words that are causing us to melt. This makes total sense of the decline in mental health.

As I explore the present moment I truly realize it is all we have. Saying so and knowing so are two different things. My journey has only begun but I have hope whereas I hadn’t prior to discovering Eckard Tolle. I share this information with y’all because I know we all struggle most especially within the mental health community and I will promote this until my last breath.

I share because I care! Give it a chance…you have nothing to lose!! And if you do, make sure you pass on what his teachings have done for you.

So You Know – S. Y. K.

Life & Relationships, Personal Growth & Goals

It’s me again! And it’s Monday again… Booooooo! I’m back today with your friendly So You Know series and a little chit chat 🙂

Due to problems beyond my control this post will publish a day later than it was intended

Yesterday in the United States we celebrated Easter. I believe if you are Christian this holiday is universal (don’t quote me on that). Easter is my family’s favorite get together and this year’s events went wonderful! The kids enjoyed their bag’s full of goodies and the food was to die for.

Let’s roll out this week’s questions.

As with each S.Y.K. post, the guidelines first.

I like to keep it pretty simple around here so here are a few things to keep in mind while participating:

  • There are no right or wrong answers… Your answers = Your opinion = Your life
  • Answer a few or one, whatever you are comfortable with
  • Pingback to any S.Y.K. post
  • Use the hashtag #SYK to tag your post
  • Be real. If you feel a certain type of way, say it. You were asked your opinion (double dog dare ya!)

Extra info.

*A number of questions will be asked. At least 1, no more than 5.

*Questions will range in subject from cherries to prostitution.

*Participation will consist of you creating a post on your website, listing the questions and responding.

*Pingback to any SYK post

Don’t know how to create a pingback? Hit me up and I’ll tell ya how. It’s easy and everyone needs a little help here and there

Pretty easy, right? Give your readers a little insight to who you are and participate in S.Y.K every Monday!

Today’s Questions

  1. What is your favorite holiday?
  2. Are there family traditions that you continue each year?
  3. Have you started any new fun things that your family does each year as a tradition? If so, please share! (Family does not have to be by blood – close friends count too!)
  4. Do you remember how old you were when you discovered the holiday mascots (Easter bunny, Santa, etc) weren’t real? Got a story that goes along with this discovery? Share, please!
  5. Which is your least favorite holiday?

Last week’s Q’s and my A’s

  • Do you take responsibility for other people’s problems and/or emotions, unknowingly? I do and am trying to learn how not too. You can’t deny that energy exists and I pick up on people’s emotions through an energy field. This is commonly referred to as an empath. For myself, it is torcher. I cannot discern between mine and others and I go through phases where I can block from feeling others energy and phases where I cannot. As of late, I cannot. This has a bad impact on day to day life and I struggle keeping my head above water. I wake feeling a certain way and by time I have encountered two or three others, I process their feelings and make them my own. I do not feel responsible per se but I do feel it is hard to communicate if the energy is heavy.
  • When did you realize that this behavior was burdening you and stunting your growth? Was it a particular incident or did someone point it out that it isn’t your responsibility? I was told by a counselor that the way others feel about me is none of my business and it is a reflection of them, not of me. I took that and from there realized that I am not responsible for their feelings and also realized that doing so was negatively effecting me. This is when I put together the relation I have with energy and other people. Call me crazy but it isn’t anything I haven’t been called before.
  • Were you raised by giving parents or parents who gave only to throw it in your face later? I don’t think they ever gave only to throw it in my face but when it was/is convenient to apply guilt to a situation, it is definitely the go-to, ” after all I’ve done for you..”
  • Lastly, what are your opinions concerning parents being held responsible for their children’s actions? At what age are children to be held responsible for their own actions? Is this reflective of how you were raised or the opposite? In my opinion, children’s actions reflect that of their parents responses. But there is a responsibility as a parent to teach our children consequence. There is a grey area where teens are concerned because many children act on emotion. I think it is important to hold them responsible for their own actions from the moments they enter this world but as far as crimes are concerned, the laws should never bend to trial a child (17 and under) as an adult. Although the crime may be heinous, they should still be charged in the youth grouping. And as terrible as it would be to see my child suffer at the hands of another child, I am still more understanding of that verses an adult molesting a child.
  • When children act out it is because they seek attention. They find a way to make you respond and albeit negative or not, attention is attention. They are most likely to be experiencing difficult times at home or at school with their peers. Sometimes it’s hard to get kids to talk but if you watch them, you’ll discover what it is and from there it is the adults choice of how to guide them through those times. Children mimic adults and perhaps when they are acting out, we should look within ourselves and see what it is we are showing, not telling, them as their role models. My Ma was adamant when it came to respecting us as people and so I believe this to be a reflection of how I was raised. If you don’t like what you see in your child, maybe you should make some changes in your life. That’s what I had to do and it wasn’t easy but well worth it.

And that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!!

Personal Growth & Goals

I am ready to let go of the attachment

I am a giving person

and do so with thought

But

That’s stopped.

I am ready to rid myself of

Let's Talk Paper - Revenge of Eve

Let’s Talk Paper

Creative & Collective

Let’s Talk Paper!

Hey, Y’all!!  Keeping with the theme of stationery, today I will provide some basic information about paper sizing.  We all know that there are different sizes and types of paper available for purchase but possibly not the exact sizing.  How does this information help you? Well, if you like to schedule your daily life then a planner may be necessary. Planners come in a variety of sizes and finding your planner peace often depends on finding the perfect size planner that suits your needs.  This is also true when deciding on notebooks sizes.

You don’t have to be into planning to benefit from the following information.  The sizes of paper matter when printing as well.

Paper Sizing

Paper sizes are measured on a standard paper size scale.  International standard (ISO) specifies paper sizes used in most countries except for the U.S. and Canada which size their own sizing standard.

There are a lot of mathematical formulas behind A, B, and C paper sizes but the common feature is that any successive paper size measurement is determined by halving the dimensions of the preceding one.

Notebook Paper Size A Series

A3 11.7 X 16.5 inches

A4 8.3 X 11.7 inches

A5 5.8 X 8.3 inches

A6 4.1 X 5.8 inches

A7 2.9 X 4.1 inches

Examples of commonly printed items are:

postcards A6

flyer A5

newsletter A4

Remember: The larger the number, the smaller the paper size.

Notebook Paper Size B Series

B5 6.9 X 9.8

B6 4.9 X 6.9

B7 3.5 X 4.9

Paper Weight (GSM)

Grams per meter squared (GSM) refers to the paper’s weight, its thickness.  Generally the thicker/heavier the paper, the better its quality, unless we consider Japanese papers and then we have a new ball game.  Japanese stationer’s bring a different contender to the game of paper in terms of quality. They offer thin, soft papers for calligraphy that show no bleed through.  That makes for a separate post.

Back to standard paper – The thicker the paper the less tendency to bleed through or feather when using wet ink pens, ie. fountain pens.  I prefer marker pens which have a tendency to bleed through when using writing paper but with a thicker stock paper, it does not.

Revenge of Eve

Types of Paper

  1. Text paper (office paper) ~ lightweight 20 lbs budget-friendly, medium 22-24lbs, heavy 28-32 lbs pen will not bleed through
  2. Bristol ~ lightest cardstock, most commonly used, 100lb for card making projects
  3. Index ~ sturdier cardstock, smoother than Bristol
  4. Cover ~ much thicker, invitations, cards

Paper Finish

  1. Coated
  2. Uncoated

Both uncoated and coated papers can have a polished finish.  The polished types are gloss, semi-gloss, silk, and matte.

7 Categories of Paper

  1. Printing paper
  2. Writing paper
  3. Wrapping paper
  4. Blotting paper
  5. Drawing paper
  6. Handmade papers
  7. Specialty paper

Need to Know Info: Paper has a history that can be traced back to the 2nd-century in China.  The use of paper has a large impact on the environment in terms of trash and deforestation.  The use and production of recycled paper are more prevalent today because of environmental factors.

The extent of information provided is condensed, as you can imagine the scope of information related to stationery.  If you work in an office setting you are likely to have learned about paper sizing, type, and finish without realizing you have done so. Printing requires paper settings to achieve a desired result.  Next time you are printing, take note of the settings and the options you are given, This is an easy way to familiarize yourself with the information you just read in terms of real life situations.

Life & Relationships

Have You?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to tell your child that life gets better?

Of course, and mean it.

I can’t even imagine the sight of a world where that would be true.

My faith in humanity is put to the test on a daily basis,

mere moments after being restored.

Without such tug-a-war,

Our lives are sure to bore.

If only evolution lessened the pain.

How can we change a society who sees nothing more to gain?

Our lives structured in time frame.

If I teach my child kindness,

Won’t you do the same?

I would be lying if I claimed to be happy, today. It truly sucks that this existence of mine is shared with others who lie, cheat, steal, judge, envy, plot, and watch with bated breath for another to fall. When the fuck will we rise to help all?

This world breaks my heart and I often don’t want any part. The moment I trust or rely on another, I am shown the ugliness that is man. Not sure how much more I can stand.

We are not supposed to expect, but can’t we begin with mutual respect?

Ready? On your mark…get set….
GO!!

  • Do you take responsibilty for other peoples problems and/or emotions, unknowingly? If so, move on to question 2, if not…head on to #3.
  • When did you noticed this behavior was burdening you and stunting your growth? Was it a particular incident or did someone verbally tell you that it isn’t your responsibility?
  • Were you raised by giving parents or by parents who gave only to throw it in your face later?
  • Lastly, what are your opinions concerning parents being held responsible for their children’s action? As in – what age is the child when they are held responsible for their own actions? Is this opinion reflective of how your parents raised you or opposite?

Ok I squeezed multiple question under one number, two times (lol), but that’s ok

The questions here on S.Y.K. have had a parenting theme more recently and as I am just noticing this, I can relate it to what I am seeing lately. These questions are also for non-parents – assuming they have opinions about the matters of parenting. Because I mean, damn, they sure have an opinion when a child is screaming and throwing a fit in Wal-Mart!! And the expression on their faces say even more!!

My answers to last weeks questions

  • What is your biggest fear? Besides suffocating, which is my biggest, would have to be that I “check out” because life becomes too hard to handle.
  • When did you recognize it as the biggest? After an episode of psychosis.
  • What happened that caused you to recognize it? I lost control of my mind. More specifically, I wasn’t taught how powerful our brains are and that it can do things without consulting the host.
  • Has it ever happened to you or anyone you love? not that I am aware of.
  • Have you tried to overcome? If so, how and what was the result? I do not remember fighting it but I will say it was scary and out of sorts. I saw myself looking down from above. I was sitting in a chair with my legs crossed and while I was literally doing so, it didn’t make sense to see myself from that perspective. Unfortunately the opposite is true. When life seems to be edging on “too much”, I almost welcome it. It can be related to me giving up, I suppose. I don’t want to give up but sometimes life can be too much and sometimes I feel I am not cut out for it.

Before you go…. if you moseyed around and liked what you saw, I was anonymously nominated for a blogging award and if I did not promote voting, I would be doing the nominator a disservice – so, if you liked- vote here for Revenge of Eve. And, as always, Thank You for your support 🙂
